After an event · Denver
Why did it start acting up after the remodel?
The short answer
Because the surroundings changed, not the cabinet. New joinery, a re-laid floor and weeks of fine dust all reach the condenser and the grille before they reach you. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Denver sorts airflow and seating on one visit — (303) 729-0972.

Before you call
- Take the lower grille off and look. Drywall dust and sawdust settle on a condenser far faster than household dust does.
- Vacuum what you can reach with a soft brush attachment. Sub-Zero asks that the aluminium fins are never bent and that no chemical cleaner is used.
- Check the grille is seated properly and that nothing the joiners added sits across the opening it breathes through.
- Open and shut each door slowly. A front that now catches the frame, or a new worktop overhang, was fine before the work.
- Note the room itself. Sub-Zero designs indoor units to run between 60°F and 90°F, and an unheated shell mid-build is outside that.
Stop here and call Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Denver on (303) 729-0972 if the condenser is clear, the grille is seated, and the cabinet is still not holding.
What it usually turns out to be
-
A condenser loaded with building dust
The coil behind the grille is furred grey, the machine bay is warm, and nothing inside the cabinet itself has changed.

-
A cabinet that lost its level
New flooring raised the front or the back, and doors that used to swing shut now hang open or catch.

-
A blocked breathing path
A new plinth, a filler panel or a tiled return covers part of the grille opening, and warm air has nowhere to go.

-
A fan motor taking the load
Months of running against a choked coil wear the motor that has to keep moving air through it, and the noise changes first.

When it is worth a visit
If the coil is clean, the grille breathes and the doors close square, whatever the building work changed is somewhere you cannot see it. Mention the remodel when you ring — knowing what was done, and roughly when, narrows the list a technician packs for.
Why it shows up weeks later, not on the day
Nothing about a remodel breaks a refrigerator on the spot. What it does is change the conditions the cabinet has to work in, and a built-in absorbs a good deal before it complains. Dust settles on the coil over the fortnight the site is open. A floor goes down and lifts the whole unit a few millimetres. A return panel narrows the gap the grille breathes through. The cabinet runs a little longer each day, and by the time anyone notices, the trades have gone.
Follow-up questions
Can dust from the building work really stop it working?
It does not stop it; it makes it work harder for the same result. A coat of fine dust on the condenser keeps heat in the machine bay, and the system answers by running for longer stretches. Sub-Zero asks for the coil to be cleared every six to twelve months, and a building site shortens that.
The joiner fitted the panels. Is the alignment his or yours?
Both, usually. The cabinet has its own adjustment for the door and the panel it carries, and a technician can take up a certain amount there. What no cabinet can correct is a run of joinery that finished out of square around it, and that goes back to whoever built it.
Should I have the cabinet looked at before the kitchen is finished?
It is the easy moment for it. While the plinth is off and the run is still open, the coil can be cleared and the seating checked without anything being dismantled twice. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Denver books that visit on (303) 729-0972.

Still doing it after the checks?
Say what changed and in what order, and the technician packs for that fault rather than for a guess. Technicians work 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, any day of the week, and the line takes a call 24/7.
