Sub-Zero Parts Lookup in Denver: Rating Plate to Part Number

A Sub-Zero parts lookup starts with the model and serial number on the unit's rating plate, since one model can use different parts by serial range. How to read it, match filters, judge aftermarket parts and check warranty first.

Refrigerator pulled out from the wall with its rear panel off and a charging hose connected at the compressor, manifold gauges and a refrigerant cylinder on the floor

The fastest Sub-Zero parts lookup begins with two numbers printed on the refrigerator itself: the model and the serial number on its rating plate. Search with both, never with a description or a snapshot of the broken piece, because Sub-Zero revises components inside a single model over the years and the serial tells a parts counter which revision you own. With a built-in framed into cabinetry, ordering the wrong fan motor or gasket means a second visit and another week of groceries in a picnic cooler.

Start at the rating plate

Every Sub-Zero carries a rating plate, a small label listing the model number, serial number and electrical data. On most full-size built-ins it sits inside the refrigerator section near the top, and on some older Classic BI units it is tucked behind the top grille. Undercounter refrigeration, wine storage and ice makers usually put it on an inside wall. Use a phone flashlight and photograph the entire label so no digit gets mistyped later.

While you are there, note three more things: roughly when the unit was installed, the name of the dealer or builder who supplied it, and the symptom in your own words. Sub-Zero asks for the model, serial, installation date and dealer name before it books warranty service, and the same details help whether you end up ordering a filter or calling a technician.

Why the number changes under the same model

Sub-Zero keeps older refrigerators serviceable by superseding parts: a new number takes over from an old one, and the old one slowly drops out of stock. The air purification cartridge shows how this works. Part 7042798 is the direct replacement for 7007067, and it is the only air filter the refrigerator has, so a listing that offers a second air filter for the same unit deserves a hard look.

The UC-15I undercounter ice maker went through the same change, with its filter now sold as 7042803 in place of 7012333. An older number on a retailer’s page is not automatically wrong, but confirm it cross-references to the current one before you pay.

The serial matters most for parts that changed partway through production: control boards, fan motors, door gaskets and hinges. Two refrigerators wearing identical model numbers can need different boards, which is why a careful parts counter asks for the serial before quoting anything.

Parts you can look up and swap yourself

Filters are the one category most owners can identify and install without tools.

What it isCurrent partOlder or interchangeableWhen to replace
Twist-in water filter42044909030868about 750 gallons or 12 months
Two-prong push-in filter, legacy BI70454547023811, discontinuedwhen the indicator calls for it
UC-15I ice maker filter70428037012333every six months
Air purification cartridge70427987007067about once a year

The twist-in filter fits Classic BI and CL refrigerators, Designer DEC and DET models, and the 648PRO, PRO3650 and PRO4850. Change it before the twelve months are up if water pressure falls off or the cubes come out hollow. Be aware that 7045454 handles color, taste and odor only; the microbiological push-in it replaced is no longer made.

Before ordering, make sure your unit takes a water filter at all. Sub-Zero wine storage apart from the IW-30CI, UC-24 undercounter models, DEU undercounter refrigeration and ID drawers have none, and the DEU1550I ice maker does not ship with one. It is an easy mistake to buy a cartridge for a unit with nowhere to put it.

If you pull the twist-in filter on a Classic BI, or run it on bypass plug 7011209, the filter light will keep complaining. Press the white reset button just left of the filter five times within seven seconds and the life monitor switches off. On the UC-15I, hold the clean button for 6 seconds after a filter change to clear the red REPLACE FILTER light.

Genuine versus aftermarket

For filters, the real difference is testing and fit. The Classic CL cartridge was put through NSF/ANSI 42 and NSF/ANSI 53 by NSF International, according to Sub-Zero’s own data sheet, which also calls for a water supply between 35-120 psi. A cheaper copy may carry neither standard, and a cartridge that seats loosely can weep behind a panel-ready door where nobody notices until the flooring swells. If you go aftermarket, look for the NSF standard printed on the box and a stated cross-reference to 4204490 or 7045454, not merely a picture that looks close.

With working parts the stakes climb. An off-brand fan motor may turn at a different speed, and a generic sensor can read a few degrees off, leaving the compressor running long or the freezer creeping warm. Saving a little on the part rarely pays on an appliance this expensive to replace.

What warranty coverage depends on

Before buying any part, check whether you should be paying for it. Sub-Zero counts residential coverage from the date of original installation, not from the day you bought the house:

  • A full two-year warranty on parts and labor for anything defective in materials or workmanship.
  • A full five-year sealed system warranty on the compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and connecting tubing, labor included.
  • A limited twelve-year sealed system warranty on those same components, where the owner pays labor and every other cost.
  • Just 60 days for cosmetic defects on stainless doors, panels, handles, frames and interior surfaces.

Replacement water filters and air purification cartridges are never covered, so those are always yours to buy. Online product registration is what activates the warranty. If you bought a Washington Park or Cherry Creek house with the refrigerator already built in, it may never have been registered, and the installation date will have to come from the seller, the builder or the original dealer.

When the lookup becomes a diagnosis

A parts lookup works when you already know what failed. When a Sub-Zero simply stops cooling, the symptom does not name the part. Many Sub-Zero built-ins run a separate cooling system for each section, so the fresh-food side can go warm while the freezer keeps working, and a stalled fan, a defrost fault, a drifting sensor or a sealed-system leak can all look alike from the outside. Typical ranges around Denver:

  • Door gasket or seal replacement: $260–$700
  • Evaporator or condenser fan motor: $320–$740
  • Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor: $280–$680
  • Electronic control board: $430–$1,010
  • Compressor or sealed-system repair: $1,370–$3,080

Each is a typical range, and the firm price comes once the fault is found. The visit and full diagnosis are a flat $89, and that $89 is taken off the bill as soon as you approve the repair. We work in Capitol Hill, Highland and across our Denver service area; call (303) 729-0972 with the model and serial in hand, and the correct part can be confirmed before anything gets ordered.

Follow-up questions

Can I find a Sub-Zero part from a photo of the old one?

Not reliably, because many Sub-Zero parts look alike across revisions while carrying different numbers. Search with the model and serial number from the rating plate instead, and use the photo only to confirm that the part you found matches the one that came out of the unit.

Which water filter does my Sub-Zero refrigerator use?

Most Sub-Zero built-ins that take a filter use the twist-in 4204490, which is interchangeable with 9030868 and fits Classic BI and CL, Designer DEC and DET, 648PRO, PRO3650 and PRO4850 models. Some legacy BI units take a two-prong push-in filter instead, now 7045454. Wine storage other than the IW-30CI, UC-24 models and ID drawers have no water filter at all.

My Sub-Zero refrigerator is not cooling. Which part do I need?

You cannot tell from the symptom alone, so get a diagnosis before ordering anything. A warm fresh-food section can come from a stalled fan motor, a defrost fault, a failing sensor or control board, or a sealed-system problem, and each one calls for a different part. The diagnosis visit is a flat $89, credited to the repair once you approve it.

How much does a Sub-Zero repair cost?

Typical ranges are $260–$700 for a door gasket, $430–$1,010 for an electronic control board and $1,370–$3,080 for compressor or sealed-system work, with the firm price set after diagnosis. The visit and full diagnosis cost a flat $89, and that amount comes off the bill when you approve the repair.

Is my Sub-Zero still under warranty?

It depends on the date of original installation. Sub-Zero gives a full two-year parts and labor warranty, a full five-year sealed system warranty, and a limited twelve-year sealed system warranty under which you pay the labor. Filters and air purification cartridges are not covered, and registering the product is what activates the coverage.
